It’s impossible not to have heard of Nero if you are using the computer on a daily basis, as it is basically the most famous CD and DVD burning software ever created.

Although so powerful, Nero has lost many of its fans lately, especially because of its high price which made users turn to a freeware alternative.

Nevertheless, those who still want to enjoy Nero’s powerful features, but without paying that much for a license, can use Nero 11 Free, a freeware version of the tool that lacks some of the tools included in the full suite.

Installation shouldn’t be too difficult if you skip the part when you’re asked whether to install the Ask Toolbar or not, but we must warn that it could take a while until all files are successfully copied on the computer.

Nero isn’t delivered in a very light package, but this is kind of obvious since it has to comprise so many advanced features.

As always, using the software depends on how fast you get used to it. Still, if you’ve used Nero in the past, everything is piece of cake. It has a pleasant and clean interface, with the main functions displayed at the top of the main window on tabs.

Nero is still a great product when it comes to burning data on CDs and DVDs, so doing this is actually a baby’s job.

Just pick the files you want to copy on a disc, make the final adjustments, such as burning speed and disc name, and you’re ready to go.

Overall, it is a good thing to see Nero finally available with a free license, but keep in mind that this package only comes with the basic features. If you still dream about all the other tools included in Nero’s suite, you should probably have a look at the more expensive package.

· 256 MB RAM
· 512 MB RAM for Windows Vista
· 270MB hard drive space for a typical installation of all components.
· 500MB hard drive space temporary for the installation
· CD or DVD recordable or rewritable drive for burning.
· DirectX 9.0c revision 30 (August 2006) or higher.
· Up to 9 GB available hard drive space for DVD images and temporary DVD files.
· Graphics card with at least 32 MB video memory
· minimum resolution of 800 x 600 pixels
· 16-bit color settings
· 24-bit or 32-bit true color is recommended
